Daughters Of The Brothel

Being India a democratic land, most commonly discussed topics amongst people are equalation rights and prostitution. Prostitution is mainly considered as "Problem" and it does not exist only in India but throughout the world. We have already read so many articles online ,in newspapers or in books where written depth of researches, all the myths  about prostitution but they all end up with proposing their perspectives about "What government should do about this!" including some suggestions like, government should make strict law which works not only to remove the prostitution but also change the mentality of people who are interested in paid sex by punishing them.(well this is the most specific one I read in so many articles.) But is this subject minor enough to research, write , read and forget? Instead the more it is written about the more it feels mocking to the people who are involved in sex working or human trafficking or who belonged to enunch and ishmaels.

The book 'Daughters Of The Brothels : Stories From Delhi's Red-light District' by Deepak Yadav covers life stories of female sex workers of Delhi's famous red light area. This cannot be consider as collection of stories but rather it is insights of prostitute  and eunuch’s  life author himself has acquainted while interviewing or communicating with them.
From the reasons causes these females jump into this profession to how even after working willingly here they struggle with humiliation , exploitation , physical hygiene , mocking and never ending physical harassment on daily basis just for the sake of few bucks and How even little girls are not spared from getting pushed into this vicious circle all the hardest part of their lives are narrated by author in their own words.

My Takeaways –
First starting from cover it is bright and eye catcher completely relatable enough for cover to cover  described events.
This type of books are hard to criticise as they are not any assumption or self development of author. The conversations and interaction author had had with prostitutors and eunuchs is delivered quite effectively but the delivered presentation should’ve been more effective.
The most of the stories , reasons cause the females to serve in this profession or their way of living described here will not surprise you or will not be as informative as it is supposed to if you have read or known about problem prostitution in India before.
Recommendable to the young readers who might are yet to see and know the outside world specially the major critical issues faced by India’s high profile states. You should definitely go with it if you’ve not read any article about prostitution before.
