Aamis - Explore The Dark Side Of Love..

Cast: Lima Das, Arghadeep Baruah, Neetali Das, Sagar Saurabh, Dilip
Manash Das

Director: Bhaskar Hazarika

'Aamis' means 'Meat'. As strange the title seems as thrilling the movie is. 'Aamis' directed by National award winning director-writer Bhaskar Hazarika is a bold love story coated with desires, cravings, layers of emotions and obsession shows to which extreme level the perception of love can reach to prove it's existence.

Story starts when in Guwahati a female paediatrician Dr. Nirmali Das (Lima Das), married and a mother of half-teen son got acquainted to Sumon (Arghadeep Baruah), a student pursuing his anthropology and researching for his PhD in meat-eating habits and traditions in the Northeast accidently.

Dr. Nirmali a dutiful wife who’s husband mostly stays away from home travelling to remote villages to save mankind and doing researches on diseases was longing and ripe for a constant companionship.

While get along talking with Sumon, his stories of meet club created by himself and his friends where they buy, slaughter, cook and then enjoy different kind of fresh meats excites her cravings. The evident glint in her eyes for those unusual, ravishing cuisines plant seed of love in Sumon’s heart.

It starts with Rabbit’s soft meat first that Sumon cooked and bought to Nirmali. While feeding her, seeing her childlike enthusiasm desire, beauty, honest reaction and to surrender herself for his offering made him restless. Everything was suddenly exciting and kinky for Nirmali when they both started roaming around exotic meals.

Over the delicious meals they internally was drawning themselves in each other through conversations. Though both the lovers were aware of society and were maintaining the unexpressed relationship quite secretively.

It took a first twist when love was getting expressed by yellow casserole tiffin-box full of fresh meat cuisines, moving hand to hand that became more orgasmic than satisfactory for Nirmali. When Sumon talked about list of stuff to try out that included  deer, elephant, monkey, dog, cat, lizards, worms, snakes, dragonflies… and the most tabooed of it all — bat meat it arouse burning sensation in Nirmali to surrender herself for whatever it takes to dive in to the adventure.

Elias, a doctor friend of Sumon is playing a very good part here as he keeps reminding him continuously that the path chosen by him is abnormal but according to Sumon there is no universal definition of what’s “normal”, what’s acceptable.

Unknown to themselves now their obsession and unbound forbidden feeling to experience the orgasmic taste pushed themselves to get sinned together.

It was really interesting to watch a movie that starts with a simple and sweet love story picks up unpredictable turn and end up leaving a thrilling effect. The movie is devoted to cooking, conspiracy, deliciousness, text messages, naturality, perceptions and a clever yet artistic cinematography.

Assamese is not my language I watched and enjoyed it with the help of subtitles. Story is equally focused on every character though, Character of Nirmali stands out because of her measured performance, change of reactions and maintained tone. This is an example that movie specially a love story without a protagonists taking overdose of alcohol, drugs and using abusive language can be gripping and distracting.

Focusing on dark part, movie simplifies a quotation “If there’s no obsession ,there is no love”. While you finish the movie it will leave you pondering over a question ‘How much abnormality is acceptable in Love?’ Not only teenagers, side effects of falling and being in love is same for all.

For every hardcore movie lover this brilliant execution of art will be a piece of cake. Only if you prefer delicious and satisfactory over spicy.
